On May 28, 2008 after more than six years of arduous fundraising, the Central School was physically relocated to the Mount Prospect Historical Society’s museum campus on the Southeast corner of Busse Avenue and Maple Street. The building was originally located on the Southeast corner of Central Road and Main Street, a site which is currently occupied by the Mount Prospect Public Library. In the late 1930s the building was moved to the Northeast corner of Thayer and Wille Streets on the site of St. John’s Epsicopal Church. The Central School was moved approximately two miles. Because of the size of the building, utility lines had to be disconnected over Route 83 and various police agencies had to close down the busy thoroughfare. Schoolchildren and residents lined the streets to watch the building lumber to its new home…
