Camp Pine
On the northwest border of what is today Mount Prospect is a Cook County forest preserve. On the eastern side of the Des Plaines River (near the intersection of Euclid and River Road) was a WWII German POW camp called Camp Pine. Around 200 German soldiers were held here through the war, living in 5 barracks with a mess tent. Many of them worked outside of the camp at local farms and some worked at Pesche’s flowers. After the war, the buildings from this camp were used by girl and boy scout troops. We would like any information, memories, or photos of this camp, either as a POW camp or as a scout camp.

I worked as a cleaner and usher at the Prospect Theatre in 1977-1978. The place had main seating and a balcony. I remember finding movie posters in the storage room that were ancient. I wish I kept some. I remember a room in the back where there was an oil burning furnace. The room was like something from the nightmare on Elm Street movie. I was 17 years old I worked there.
James says
I saw many movies there from 1981-1991 growing up in Mount Prospect. It was typically second run stuff and many double features. The balcony was sometimes chained off and towards the end I think the balcony seemed always to be closed. I never saw it but they did the Rocky Horror Picture Show thing there for years. It was always on the marquee at the bottom. Sometimes we grabbed pizza at Ye Olde Towne Inn before the show or Sammy Skobel’s for a hot dog. Some movie highlights: A double feature of City Heat and The Terminator, Annie, Rambo, Fright Night, Rocky IV, Die Hard, and Star Trek III and IV.
